INCIDENT AT RAVEN'S GATE screening 01.23.11

We got a weird one this week folks!

It's Rolf de Heer's 1988 sci-fi shocker INCIDENT AT RAVEN'S GATE!

This movie is kind of hard to describe... It's like a science fiction survival horror artsy fartsy action mysteries-of the-universe alien monster horticulture thriller.
This may seem at first like too much different stuff to put into one movie, but it pulls it all together really well, creating a flick that is tense, engaging and super duper strange.

Basically, if you like cool weird movies, you will like this.

RAZORBACK screening 01.09.11

G'Day Mates!

January is Australia Month on the Third Floor, and I would not suggest missing our picture this week.

Hold on to your socks because we're showing RAZORBACK! No nightmare can prepare you for it!

Russell Mulcahey (famous for Highlander AND the video for "Hungry Like the Wolf," two of my personal faves) directed this tale of Horror and Suspense, which is kind of like Moby Dick meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets a really really big Wild Boar. Oh, and a super weird dogfood factory.

Come and experience this 1984 creature feature for yourself... IF YOU DARE!

STRANGE BEHAVIOR screening 10.24.10

Greetings from the Third Floor!

This week we're continuing our Shocktober Teenage Horror Series with one of our all-time favorites:

STRANGE BEHAVIOR (AKA Dead Kids)

...
This is a really nice one from Down Under, (although set in the good ol' U.S.ofA.) which, despite the body-count, is not so much a out and out slasher as it is a really atmospheric and sinister scifi thriller. Altman regular Michael Murphy is the sheriff of some small mid-western town where the kids are beginning to act really
weird. And kill each other. Bad news. Does it have something to do with the behavioral experiments going on at the university? Well, yes, of course they do (duh) but that's only half the fun in this delightfully bizarre picture from 1981.

Produced by the same team who Brought us Ozploitation Classics Harlequin, Patrick, and Turkey Shoot, this gem also features Dan Shor (TRON), a decidedly drowsy-looking Louise Fletcher (Nurse Ratched), a scorching Tangerine Dream Soundtrack, and unforgettably, THE SINGLE BEST PARTY SCENE IN MOTION PICTURE HISTORY.

(Seriously, if for nothing else, come for the party scene, and if you still really want to leave, that's fine but I feel as though I'd be doing something inhumanely wrong if I didn't encourage you to at least see that part.)

SOCIETY screening this Sunday 10/10/10 at KGB bar

Before Beyond Re-Animator! Before Return of the Living Dead III! Before Silent Night Deadly Night IV! Yes, before even Bride of Re-Animator, there was Brian Yuzna's directorial debut:

SOCIETY

Have you ever wondered what it was really like to be one of those snobby upper-crust type kids? You know, the ones you hated in high school but were always sort of secretly jealous of for their easy money, nice hair and athletic prowess? What... it must be like to have everything handed to you as though it were yours to begin with?
Well, this week we are very proud to finally bring you the answer to those and other questions you never wanted to ask in one of the strangest, funniest, most twisted horror movies you are likely to witness in your whole entire damn life!
It's the story of Bill Whitley (played expertly by Billy Warlock of Baywatch and Days of Our Lives fame,) a rich kid who has it all, as he begins to suspect that things are not quite what they seem when his family and friends start exhibiting some weird behavior. Really, really weird. Shock and amazement await, nothing can prepare you for when he finally finds out just what it means to be a part of...
SOCIETY!!!

It's fun, it's free, there is a bar right downstairs (drinks are encouraged in the theater so long as you buy them at the bar. No outside booze please!) Plus all of your coolest friends will be there.

The movie should start around 10:30 but we'll be there much earlier for drinks at the bar so come and hang out!
